Via Flickr: Well, my 1,000th mile wasn’t the beautiful triumph I might have asked for. I was sore and tired and hot. Lately I’ve been running 6 miles a few days a week and concentrating more on aerial, so I’m not at the level of running fitness I was in just a few months back when I ran the half-marathon. So I was tired to begin with, and got up later than I intended….and for some reason, it was an incredibly humid morning. I only had time to do a four-mile run, and yet when I finished I was red in the face and sticky with sweat. But damnit. I did it. I still need to pick a marathon training program that works for me (I’m looking for a 23-ish mile long run, but the training programs I have found top at 20 miles, or skip up to the full 26!), and possibly find a training group to do the long runs with me.

As of Thursday, I have officially surpassed my 1,000 mile goal. This about is the equivalent of running from Portland to San Diego!

I had to quit trapeze this weekend. I’m not dropping silks, I’m actually doing it three days a week now instead of two, but losing the trapeze makes me feel like a part of a dream is slipping past my fingers.
The tendon on my ring finger as this raised knot in it, which gets bruised when I have my whole body weight pressing and pulling at the bar of the trapeze. When it bruises, it swells, and then even more of my weight ends up on the hurt tendon and it just snowballs. I had hoped it would heal in the two weeks off between terms this March, or in two week gap between classes because of the Chicago wedding. But obviously it needs more time than I’ve given it, because it’s getting worse and worse.
I’m not sure what’s wrong with it. I have heard that tendons take years to strengthen, so it may be that my muscles have gotten stronger than my tendons.
I also wonder if my ring finger is overcompensating for my pinky finger.
When I was 14, I shattered my pinky playing football. The hand surgeons told me that the pinky is responsible for 70% of your grip strength, so that’s a surprisingly major injury.
I had my hand in a T-bone stirrup for 18 months. I had to quit violin. And now it’s knocking me out for trapeze too?
I wish I could tell my fourteen year old self how much of myself I was putting on the line when I tossed around that football.

I have passed the 950 mile mark in my 1,000 mile year, with two months left until I turn 30. My boss actually stopped to congratulate me today in a staff meeting, saying that he had doubted my goal when I first told him of it, but he sees now that it isn’t if I will reach 1,000 miles, but when. I’ve slowed my pace a little lately, but I want to start training for the Niagara Falls Marathon….so soon I’ll be back into the training mentality, measuring speed and mileage, with a clear goal in site :). Waterfalls.

President Obama has officially spoken out in favour of gay marriage.
It’s a politically dangerous position for him to take, and honestly I expected him to wait until after he is safely reelected to speak out in favour of our community.  In stead, he has taken a stand in response to the passage of an unjust law, even if the timing of his statements may prove detrimental to his campaign.
In honour of his profound excellence, I dub him an honorary hatsbian.
If you were considering contributing to his campaign, I would strongly encourage you to make a donation today. With our timely support, we can send a powerful message. Let’s show our president that we appreciate his support, and that we stand behind him, too.
